Alex first started riding in 2005 with Columbia University Cycling (where he is now Captain and Vice-President, and the promoter of Columbia’s Grant’s Tomb Criterium). By the end of that summer he was racing as a Cat 3. He continued with Columbia, this time in the Elite Collegiate category, earning a spot at Natioinal Championships and raced in the Division 1 road race and the crit. When the collegiate season ended, he raced with the ReMax USCF team and very quickly earned his Cat 2. After racing some hard races in elite categories, and winning the U23 State Championship Road Race at Union Vale, he is excited to take racing to the next level with Empire in 2008.
Alex is currently a Junior at Columbia University, studying Mechanical Engineering. His interests outside of cycling include vegetarian cooking, cats, Buddhism, Taoism, non-fiction, literature, modern rock, socially responsible industrial design, all bodies of water, nature, public radio, working on bikes, math, physics, and fractals. Although his compulsive streak can lead to taking take life far too seriously, he loves to laugh and tries to make light of every situation while imagining the possible positive outcomes.
