John grew up in Queens, NY and cut his cycling teeth on the roads of the North Shore of Long Island. He started racing at 15 years old. His first competitive cycling event was a 24 hour cycling marathon in Central Park. “I had no idea what I was doing. I just rode and ended up winning the junior event with 318 miles after 18 hours of riding!” After this auspicious start, John has gone on to rack up impressive wins. (He hasn’t let his career as a doctor interfere with cycling domination!)
His team mates have been known to call him JLo, though John acknowledges that the original has a better butt. A true sportsman, John gets a kick out of helping “the boys” succeed and feels that if you're not having fun with racing then you are doing it wrong.
