2007 was Matt’s first year back to racing after 10 years off the bike. His solid results showed that he will quickly be back to the top level of the sport. Back in the early 90’s he was a young phenomenon, winning his first Pro/am stage race at 16, and being named to the Senior National A team at 17. He maintained a tough schedule, competing internationally, traveling and racing most of the year. But as many people feared when they saw how hard he pushed at such an early age in the sport, he burned out. He returned to racing briefly again in 1996, winning the US National Criterium Championship by lapping the field, but didn’t find enough support to keep him racing long. Matt feels his desire to win is stronger than it has ever been and is excited to show what he’s capable of as part of the Empire Team.
